Darrell's Island

Darrell’s Island is a favorite spot for picnic groups and campers due to its relatively flat terrain, large open space areas and close proximity to Hamilton. The island is only a 20-minute boat ride from Hamilton.

Location: Darrell’s Island is located within the Great Sound in the central region of Bermuda. It forms part of Warwick Parrish and lies north-west of the Warwick coastline.

Capacity: 14 individual rustic camp sites with a maximum of 30 campers per site.

Availability: Rustic campsites – weekend, weekly or monthly. Dormitory camp – weekend or weekly

Equipment Required:

Rustic camping – must be self-sufficient and bring all supplies including tent, sleeping bags/bedding, cooking equipment, food, cooler/freezer, and personal effects.

Dormitory camp – sleeping beds/bedding, pillow, personal effects, food and cutlery.

Facilities: The 14 rustic campsites are located at the eastern end of the island. Each site is unique in size, surroundings, and view. The multi-purpose camping building is a fairly large area that accommodates year-round camping with space for 30 campers in a dormitory arrangement. It also has the capacity to seat up to 30 people for meals and can be used for a variety of indoor activities such as crafts, special events, seminars, and games.

The kitchen is located within the multi-purpose camping building. It is fully equipped with a commercial stove, refrigerator, freezer, and various kitchen supplies including pots and pans. The kitchen is only available for use by the group reserving the multi-purpose camping building.

There are male and female washrooms and showers at the camp.

Paget Island

For the serious camper, Paget Island provides and escape from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. It is a mere ten minutes away from the airport, and only seven minutes by boat away for the Town of St. George’s, – Bermuda’s oldest capital. Proximity to St. George’s provides the camper accessibility to quaint shops and a main bus line.

Location:  Paget Island is a 36 acre island at the eastern end of Bermuda near the entrance to St. George’s harbor, and not far from the airport.

Capacity:

Dormitory accommodation for 70 campers on a year-round basis. Only one group accommodated at a time.

Sleeping bags/ bedding, pillows, personal effects, food, and cutlery.

Facilities

There are male and female dormitories that accommodate year-round camping with bunk beds for 70 campers. Within each dormitory there are washrooms and showers.

The dining hall is fairly large and has a capacity to seat 40 campers for meals. The kitchen within the hall contains a commercial stove, refrigerator, freezer, and various kitchen supplies including pots and pans.

The waterfront is picturesque and is excellent for fishing and swimming. There are several walking trails that encircle the island and provide spectacular views of the ocean, St. Georges, and other islands. The beaches are relatively secluded and there are several beaches within the shade of trees.

There are large recreational areas or playing fields that are suitable for variety of activities such as picnics, games, or special events.

Port's Island

Local and overseas groups vie for a chance to camp here each year. Similar to Darrell’s Island, it is only a 20-minute boat ride from Hamilton.

Location: Ports Island is located within the Great Sound in the central region of Bermuda. It consists of 20 acres and forms a part of Warwick Parish.

Capacity: Dormitory accommodation is for 35 campers on a year-round basis.

Outdoor facilities for tents year-round.

The maximum group size is 70 for the c amp premises (includes sleeping outdoors in tents)

Only on group is accommodated at a time.

Equipment Required: Sleeping bags/ bedding, pillows, personal effects, foods, and tents if planning to camp outside.

Facilities: The camp lodge accommodates year-round camping with bunk beds in a dormitory arrangement. There is a multi-purpose area within the lodge that can be used for a variety of indoor activities such as crafts, drama, games, and seminars. Adjoining the main lodge is the dining hall and the kitchen. The dining hall can seat 70 campers for meals.

The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a commercial stove, refrigerator, freezer, and various kitchen supplies, including pots and pans.

There are male and female washrooms at the camp that have showers.

There is numerous swimming and fishing areas, and the site is also suited to snorkeling and scuba diving. The beach is ideal for young swimmers and sunbathers. Just off the main dock area are two diving boards.

A picturesque walking trail circles the outskirts of the Island. Breathtaking scenery leads the camper to the “Chapel Church in the trees’, the historical Yellow Fever Graveyard, and other historic points of interest. There is a large recreational area with a playing field and benches around the site.

White's Island

White’s Island is a pleasant, wooded island that is ideal for small groups. It is only a four-minute boat ride from the City of Hamilton. Campers can enjoy the night-lights of the City as well as the early morning sunrise.

Location:

White’s Island lies in the middle of Hamilton Harbor, half-way between the City of Hamilton and Paget Parish shoreline. The Island consists of 2 ½ acres and is part of Paget Parish.

Capacity:

Accommodation for 30 campers under tent. Must bring own tents.

Facilities

There are male and female washrooms. The washrooms are fairly large and have showers.

Small sailboats can be launched and moored to floating rafts along the main dock area. There are 30 individual changing rooms along the dock as this is a good area for able swimmers. The beach is tucked away on the south side of the island. It offers young swimmers an opportunity to splash about in calm waters, and also appeals to older campers who prefer to sunbathe and skin-dive.

The grounds are well groomed, and the pleasant woodland areas are suitable for a variety of outdoor games or functions. Picnic tables and benches are dispersed around the site.

The site overlooks the City of Hamilton and is perfect for campers who prefer to ‘cook out’ under the stars. Campers can follow a picturesque walking trail along the island.
